By Pamela, on October 31st, 2010% Happy Halloween From Parker's Climb
On the night of October 31st, the Celts who lived 2,000 years ago, celebrated their new year’s eve. They were living in the area now known as Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Northern France. New Year’s on November 1st marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter. This time of the year was often associated with death of all things, including humans.

By Pamela, on October 30th, 2010% Halloween has long been one of my favorite holidays. Maybe it is because some of my best memories are from trick or treating as a kid. We used to dress up and come home with probably 10 pounds of candy. Those were the days when we had few worries! For those of you who have yet to decide how to dress your pet for Halloween, or better yet, you have not selected your own costume… here are a few last minute ideas. I wish I could take the credit for coming up with this idea The photos were sent to me . . . → Read More: 246 Days To Mt. Kilimanjaro – The Best Halloween Costumes
By Pamela, on October 29th, 2010% I am a huge supporter of our democratic process and hope everyone plans to vote this next Tuesday. I can honestly say that I have never missed voting in an election since turning the legal voting age. This year, I donated on more than one occasion in support of the candidates that I support, and I have spent considerable time reading to learn where my own local candidates stand on issues that are important in my view to our future.
Having said that, I will be very happy when the elections are over. For the first time in over two . . . → Read More: 247 Days To Mt. Kilimanjaro – Political Campaign Spending – A Parker’s Climb Proposal
By Pamela, on October 28th, 2010% I have always loved birthdays! Some people dread turning another year older older, but not me! The way I see it, every year I am still learning new things, I accomplish new goals, I meet new people, and finally at this age, I am at a place in life that I surround myself with the people and the things that feel good and bring happiness and joy!
At the young age of 52, I can walk away from those things and those people who do not add to the quality of life. I can sleep at night (well, most nights) . . . → Read More: 248 Days To Mt. Kilimanjaro – Birthdays Are Awesome – At 52, I Will Climb A Mountain & Help Cure PD

What a beautiful day to climb a mountain! What a great day to spend with family and friends and what an awesome way to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease. The Parker’s Climb Team started our 3 1/2 mile, 2,200 foot ascent up Mt. Greylock at 10:00 am this morning. We reached the summit just before noon and it was a climb filled with beautiful views, tremendous fall foliage and great conversations amongst our climbers. Unlike Mt. Katahdin, I actually had the energy to talk.

By Pamela, on October 23rd, 2010% Geoffrey and I spent the day in the Williamstown / North Adams area just relaxing and getting ready for our climb tomorrow. We slept late – It was chilly and it felt good to stay snuggled under the covers before heading out to see the area.
After a good breakfast of pancakes and scrambled eggs, we decided to drive up to the top of Mt. Greylock to check out the view from the summit. The weather started out sunny and as we made our way up the mountain it grew increasingly cloudy and very windy. As we got above the . . . → Read More: 253 Days To Mt. By Pamela, on October 22nd, 2010% We awoke this morning to the smell of coffee brewing and a chill in the air that made us sleep like babies. The termperatues in Boylston, Ma. dipped into the 30′s last night. Travis, Madeleine’s dog, a strapping Blue Heeler, slept next to my bed all night. He always likes it when Geoff comes to visit because Geoff will throw sticks for him to chase until he is worn to a frazzle. It was nice having a dog sleeping next to my bed last night – there is just something I like about that. On Sunday, Travis is making the . . . → Read More: 254 Days To Mt.
