THE PARKER’S CLIMB CHALLENGE – HELP US REACH A FUNDRAISING GOAL OF $5,267.00 BY SEPTEMBER 4, 2010!
THIS IS $1.00 FOR EVERY FOOT TO THE SUMMIT OF MT. KATHADIN! PLEASE GIVE TODAY!
The encouragement, positive comments and congratulatory messages over the Parker’s Mt. Kathadin summit on August 26, 2010, continue to pour in from many corners of the globe. I still am finding it hard to believe that the climb was almost a week ago and that we have met a short term goal. The Parker’s reached the summit at 5,267 feet!
I am not the only Parker feeling a little “Mountain Separation”. I know every day since Mid-July when we nailed down our climb date, all seven Parker’s have focused on the Kathadin climb in some way, almost on a daily basis. It makes perfect sense that we all are feeling a little sad that it is over.
Having never climbed a mountain, I had no idea how long my aching muscles would stay sore. Can I just tell you, for a couple of days, I had muscle aches in places on my body that I had never met. I am not exaggerating – I believe every muscle in my body was used on this climb. From my fingers, to my toes and all parts in between.
You may recall, the reason Maine was chosen for the first Parker’s Climb was because Evelyn Parker, Geoffrey’s mother was born in Maine. She had fond memories of this picturesque state and this is where she wanted to be returned to, upon her passing.
We held a touching memorial to Geoffrey’s mother, who we lost one year ago in August to Alzheimer’s disease. In her honor, I will share more on this later. She would be very proud of her three son’s, her two daughter-in-laws, and her two grandchildren that completed Parker’s Climb. I am sure Ms. Evelyn was with us each step of our journey, up and down this mountain.
I would be remiss if I did not throw out a reminder as to the fundamental goal of Parker’s Climb – yeah we wanted to climb a mountain – and we did it! We reached the summit of Mt. Kathadin at 5,267 feet!!
Our real goal is to drive donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, to help find a cure for Parkinson’s disease. We need your help to get there!
To those of you who have donated – Geoffrey and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! Every dollar that you have donated will impact more than 5 million people, world wide. Since July 4, 2010, Parker’s Climb has raised just under $4,000 in donations. We have a long way to go – won’t you help us today?
On behalf of Parker’s Climb and the Michael J. Fox Foundation, I challenge our readers to make a donation – to give what you can- to help us drive our financial contribution to $5,267.00 – By September 4, 2011 – This is $1.00 for every foot of beautiful Mount Kathadin.
