Parker’s Climb – For The Cure – New Year’s 2012

One year ago on the last evening of 2010, the Parker’s Climb Team greeted the arrival of 2011 with a sense of anticipation and excitement as another clock counted down the days until we would climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.

I can still recall the feeling that July 2011 would never arrive when we launched our year-long fundraiser in July of 2010. When we rang in 2011 we were still a long way from Tanzania and that big mountain, but it certainly was a vivid reminder that time does not stand still. The day did arrive, and on July 4, 2011, . . . → Read More: Parker’s Climb – For The Cure – New Year’s 2012

99 Days To Mt. Kilimanjaro – 10 Mountains, 10 Years Inspires All

Tonight Geoffrey and I had the pleasure of attending the 10 Mountains, 10 Years documentary which premiered at the Palm Beach International Film Festival in Delray Beach, Florida. It was a vivid reminder as to what drives us beyond our comfort zone when we need to bring change to the world for others.

The first time I wrote for Parker’s Climb, as we officially launched our year long fundraiser, the title was 364 Days To Mt. Kilimanjaro – and that day seemed like it would be an eternity before our walking shoes would take their first steps on that . . . → Read More: 99 Days To Mt. 179 Days To Mt. Kilimanjaro – Walking May Slow Cognitive Decline

My day started this morning at my normal 6:00 am, actually I was up a little earlier to take Lil Kili for a short walk before heading to the gym. It is a new challenge to adjust my schedule to include our little fluff ball, but it is so worth it! I have always had a fondness for dogs, but now that we have rescued a little dog that was apparently uncared for, it gives a whole new meaning to owning a dog! As an added bonus, I now have another reason to be walking!

I arrived a little early . . . → Read More: 179 Days To Mt. Kilimanjaro – Walking May Slow Cognitive Decline

315 Days To The Mountain – The Fox Foundation Funding Important Research

This has been an exciting week for positive medical research information being reported for Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease. Even though the two are not specifically connected, I continue to read that a breakthrough in either disease could open the door to finding the cure for other neurological diseases. ********************************************************

August 18, 2010 The New York Times printed the letter below from Katie Hood, Chief Executive of the Michael J. Fox Foundation. To the Editor:

Biomarkers’ role in early diagnosis is more widely understood than is their critical importance to drug development. Biomarkers are the key missing link in researchers’ . . . → Read More: 315 Days To The Mountain – The Fox Foundation Funding Important Research

326 Days To The Mountain – Research Overload

Researchers working on Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease seem to be making strides in tracing clues about these mysterious diseases. All of my links to different sources of media are reporting the new findings. I am feeling a little overloaded with information today. It is one of those days that I have not felt in a long while – I find the magnitude of all of this research, and the bits of information taking my breath away.

I read, more than once today, an article in the Health & Wellness section of the Wall Street Journal. I know from experience . . . → Read More: 326 Days To The Mountain – Research Overload
